The Shadow in the Water

The run of this show is over.

This play by local award-winning playwright David Elendune – and directed by award winning-director Ian Case – was a recent sold-out hit at the Victoria Fringe Festival. It is a highly personal and poignant tale of love, loss, and sharks… for the event that simmers under the surface of the play, and drives its themes, is the 1916 Jersey Shore shark attacks (long reputed to be the inspiration for the movie Jaws).  As Mary nears the end of her life, she immerses herself in a retrospective journey, guided by Sharon; a mysterious presence, and necessary witness.  The Shadow in the Water reminds us that our experiences, for better or worse, are what have made us who we are.  Will Mary embrace her experiences and come to terms with a life full of both rewards and regrets?  David Elendune – with great empathy – helps us to understand the complexity of life lived.

“So, smile in the room, and cry in the corridor, for it’s another beautiful day in Hell.” (from the play)

David’s play,  Good Night Uncle Joe is playing in England and Sweden this year, and his play,  The Day Before Tomorrow has recently be awarded mentorship at the Belfry Theatre.
