Vision Disturbance tells the story of an immigrant woman’s recovery from an abusive relationship, as she forms a mysterious connection with her new optometrist. Her gradual loss of physical eyesight is paralleled with a growing capacity for a clearer vision of her own needs and how to satisfy them. Masciotti is a writer whose every word is an essential contributor to this richly emotional tale. Vision Disturbance is deeply human; it is full of the love, humour, and heartache that define what it means to navigate this journey called life.
Christina Masciotti is an American playwright, and recipient of a Guggenheim Fellowship. Her plays have been performed to critical acclaim all over the world. Recent productions, No Good Things Dwell in the Flesh (2023) and Raw Bacon from Poland (2017), were New York Times Critic’s Picks and Vision Disturbance was cited as one of Time Out New York’s Top 10 Shows of 2010.
“Well-directed and acted, Vision Disturbance revels in the oddness of life… Deeply human… directed with clarity by Wendy Gail… Szkolak captured Mondo’s mix of feistiness and exasperation… Fidyk’s comic timing was impeccable… Jason King’s sound and projections add immeasurably to the proceedings… an enjoyably acerbic and unconventional night of theatre. Well worth seeking out.”
